A few pals and I are running WinMX as a dedicated PRIMARY (no shared/downloading files) on our "utility computer" (fax, vmail, dns, print server, etc) to contribute to the cause.

We also run WinMX for P2P use on 1+ of our other computers, but not 24/7 like the PRIMARY.

What we would like to be able to do is have WinMX look for our PRIMARY machines instead of searching for them ouside our networks.

I would love to see a "preferred primaries" configuration option on CrossMX - when it is released.

Is there a way (tweaking the HOSTS file, etc) to make this happen with WinMX???

There was a tool released by Drac back when frontcode closed their caches that allowed a primary to connect to a specific primary, based on IP, in order to get on the network. This is what the Japanese were using to get back on the network before the new peer caches were created.

I don't know where you would find this tool today.

It also does not connect secondaries to a specific primary.
