There are a number of things you can try, are you able to boot it into safe mode?

to do so, tap F8 upon start up, it will open a menu, select boot in safe mode. In safe mode many of the un-needed crap isnt loaded, this may allow you to get into windows and back up your files to cd, dvd or external drive, etc.

Try it and post back see how yuou get on.

It appears there are a number of things that can cause that message, my bet is, its just a corrupt file, this page explains cause and solutions, but it looks very much like you will need the windows CD. If you are on XP it should be fairly simple, there are some solutions for other windows OS's:

Let us know how you get along.

Good luck
