PIE auto patch is available HERE
It comes with pglyte and will use the latest winmx block list to block those flooders, as well as being able to auto update any changes to cache addresses.

where is the latest hosts list?
there used to be a manual install host list always available from the mxpie.com site..
is v3.2 the latest 'official' offering?
I note that winmx.info and winmx4u are pushing a v 3.4 and now v3.5
is there a composite list of all known peer cache server IPs?

I presume you are referring to the unoffical pie site at mxpie.info? The patches offered there are simply hosts files, they offer NO automated protection instead they rely on the rather "hit and miss" method of recommending folks install 3rd party blocking, which in practice does not work. Its users of these patches that are contributing so significantly to the network flooding.
You can find manual install HERE i would strongly advice you install the auto updater and this will ensure you protect the network, it will also automatical update any cache changes.
For cache info, see contents of hosts.

yes.. my bad. i meant mxpie.info
and I think you are painting host file only users with too broad a brush.
afaik, only those that connect as primaries need the flooder block list. those that connect as secondary don't need to block because that's a built in feature of operating as a secondary :)
as to the list of servers, the mxpie host list only has 4 IPs. It doesn't list the other 7 or more, which is why I asked of anyone maintains a COMPOSITE list of all known peer cache servers.

Your 4, and i will raise you these from WmW. As for tarring mxpie.info users with the same brush, well, i am not against the users here, i am simply against the methods used by that site. It pretty obvious to all, or at least most, that blocking is a requirement, yet the mxpie.info site, offers no such blocking, merely a recommendation that PG2 is used, and frankly i am dubious as to how up to date the bluetac lists actually are.
I really dont think a "hit and hope" approach is whats needed, i personally came across 2 primary users in a channel just a week or so ago, they we using the mxpie.info patch, they did NOT have PG2, and didnt know what pg2 was. They didnt know about the need for blocking, and were nothing short of horrified to hear they were assisting the Riaa, its this type of situation that the mxpie.info team must realise they are creating. Its these un-educated users that are right now helping the Riaa, and i make no apology for speaking out against the team that have neglected to advise these users on the importance of blocking.

that site says:
The "Pie Auto Updater" is intended to be an all inclusive solution for 2000/2003/XP users ...
what about win98 users?

lots of room there for expansion as those 30 hostnames resolve to only 7 IPs.
And as usual, I have modified my custom hosts list to incorporate all 11 current peer cache servers.

I am informed the new OS patch will offer the ability to expand to up to 300 community run caches, we will have to wait and see.

Hey guys, sorry for this real silly question.. but here goes.
I've used winmx for some years and a few years ago after it was banned I put the pie patch on my winmx and everything was going cool. Up until say about a week ago it just wouldn't log in. Then it started working again (on it's own), and now it totally stopped altogether and won't login for the past 5 days or so. Anyway I reinstalled the winmx again and connected it , i put in version 3.53 and it seems to be working again. I didn't put on the pie patch at all this time and plain 3.53 seems to be working on it's own as weird as it sounds? Anyway though, now when I login and do a search for whatever..there seems to be WAY less selection of stuff available and not as much around. Any ideas why? Do i have to enter more servers into it and if so, how and where do I enter this into my winmx?
Thanks so much for your help :-)

sounds to me like you have downloaded winmx with dll installation file, and now the fake files are being filtered.
