Well im not an expert as i dont have any of the software you do, so i had to do a little digging and the hunch i had seems to be correct:

Quote:
Audio CD. When you burn an audio CD, Windows Media Center converts digital audio files to an audio format that standard CD players can recognize and play back. Audio CDs can be played in most computers and in home and car CD players that play CD-R and/or CD-RW discs. You can burn an audio CD from either Windows Media Audio (WMA), MP3, or WAV audio file formats.

Some digital audio files may be protected and you may not be able to burn them to a CD, depending on the media usage rights that are assigned to the particular digital audio files by the content provider or owner.

The media usage rights info is as follows.

Quote:
Media usage rights
Permissions to use a protected Windows Media-based file in a particular way. For example, a content provider, such as an online music store, can grant you the right to play a song on your computer (a play right), to burn the song to an audio CD (a burn right), or to sync the song to a portable device (a sync right). The content provider dictates the terms of the rights (for example, which rights it grants to you and for how long) and the Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) component enforces those rights. Also known as a license.

That looks to be the most likely cause of your issues, perhaps someone else can wade in with a solution????[/quote]

:faroah: Thannx for the 411 Nobby but the problem may be deeper than licensing-the aforementioned burn engines are ejecting the disc at the beginning of the burn, around song #2, displaying messages like disc error or illegal something or other, it's so trifling i've lost around 9 discs so far and this is music i've downloaded through winmx, not purchased. This is very recent. It began with my attempts to make a gospel compilation after coming back from a crash in which HP sent me a new hard drive, recovery disc and a tech house call. By the way, i've burnt about 20+ discs of 6-7 different artists since i've gone back online. I've been a winmx user since napster went commercial. i have never bought music online ---strawberries-daddies etc. but never online and the dialog box, when i right click a tune says the song is not protected. something else is up..i've heard about the conflict between nero and sonic but even after deleting nero i still cannot burn the cd's movies yes songs no help!!! me please somebody tell me what to do :bounce:

I hope someone else can give you an answer, perhaps you could post the error messages? Or have you tried googling the errors?

Hey half there are numerous reported problems as you say , the burning software i'd recomend personally would be Alcohol 120%. .

Or a version of nero ..
The version of nero could be responsible as i found this :

The Nero 6 "Reloaded" Edition is currently at version 6.6.x.x but the standard version of Nero 6 is only 6.3.125. So it could be something as simple as updating the program you are usings database of drives .. as an afterthought.

If you cannot take the drive back and have no luck with the software i suggested then i'd opt for flashing the firmware of the drive to see if that helps as a last resort theres loads of info on google about the process.

You have all the bundled software that came with the drive remove it and try the FREE trial of Alcohol 120% found here
