Hello, I've tried solving all problems by myself, by reading a lot of the Mxpie info and Vladd44 help but to no avail. In listening to Vladd44 help they had me delete ALL things WinMX and P2P. By so doing, I apparently blew away my Static IP address, port forwarding info and being a Primary connection. I can't even get thru the install of WinMX 3.53 due to it not finding a connection (even tho I am). So I'm absolutely dead in the water and have no idea where to start BUT I still want my Winmx!
Specifics: Win XP, Verizon FIOS, D-link DI 624 router
I've spent the day trying to config Static IP address and port forwarding - with not much success and have now been overwhelmed by confusion.
Is there anyone there who might be willing to take me by the hand and help me get back to the wonderful world of WinMX?
I'm on the east coast and will not be avail until after 9pm this evening, but your help would be SO greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey soly4fun
Should be fairly simply, not sure why there has been such an issue, but lets run it step by step:
1. visit www.portforward.com from there you can select your router, and then Winmx, and it will guide you through router configuration.
2. Download a fresh copy of Winmx HERE
3. Install the Mxpie patch from HERE
Try that, and let us know how you get on, dont forget once the Pie patch is installed, you will need to right click on the icon in the system bar (bottom right of your screen) and then hit "manual update".

Hi Nobby, thank you for the reply. Yes I agree it should be a simple process broken down step by step. The guides and instructions are written well and clearly. I think where the 1st real problem lies is obtaining the IP address to use to set up the static ip address. Coupled with the fact that I am on a fiber optic connection through Verizon. My connection is a dynamic PPPoE. I've contacted Verizon 3-4 times trying to get the DNS name servers addresses as suggested in Port Forwards directions. But of course they claim ignorance and want to sell me 5 static ip addresses for a 'nominal monthly fee' ---- i don't think so. One Tech did try to point me in the right direction of where in the router to set up the static ip ... but I'm still unsure of where to find the ip address to enter there. When I visit Port Forward it does list an external IP address ... but this changes and I'm not sure I can use that. Verizon claims they change the IP addresss every 2 weeks, but admit that the same number is usually leased over and over to the same account - but no guarantee.
I have been using WinMx with FIOS for the past 2 years or so with no problems until this newest patch and Vladd44 had me delete everything associated with WinMx (stupidly I did not think to place it on a external HD).
Do you have any experience with FIOS or PPoE connections or can you tell me how to find the IP to use to set up the static IP ? I think this is where I need to start.
(PS: the reason I needed to delete WinMX was because when I tried to install the patch it pulls up Turbo Tax It's Deductible 2006 !!! (which I use).
Vladd44 swears by starting over with fresh copy of WinMX it will solve, but to be honest I'm doubtful)
Thanks again for any direction you might be able to give. I can chat on AIM if that is of any help. Sorry for the long posts.

soly...it was NOT Vladd who told you to do this. it was a little chinese girl called kayleigh who is running the vladd44 help room against vladd´s wishes.
she is a patch nazi who won´t help someone without installing vladds patch first. when i went there with a different name (because i am banned there...nearly all old vladd regs are banned there ) i was told to do what she says, install a new clean copy of winmx and the patch. when i answered that there is no need to do it because i have vladd´s patch and winmx is working fine she said "do it again....and answer my questions....." i left then before i would go wild....
i can only tell everyone not to go to kayleigh and craps with a fine working winmx or you are lost
btw..nobster ....where is my a big and fat mc monk eating smiley which i had on our old vladd44 forum ?????

Sable THANK YOU! I thought I was losing my mind! & I was banned from Vladd44 today by Kayleigh! I knew that channel wasn't anything like that the last time I sought help there .... what a bitc_ err wench! nuf said.
Here's the update: Verizon fried my router trying to upgrade the firmware. They delivered and installed an Actiontec MI424WR. I'm still confused on setting up static IP address & it appears the guide is written assuming DSL, cable or dial-up connections not FIOS and I'm unclear if that matters for the Fiber Optic connection. But I'm trying to work through it. With the exception of that piece, the Port forwarding seems to be a breeze.
Nobby I get a "404 Not Found" mssg when I use your "Here" link for a new clean copy of WinMX. I do have 3.53, but since it came from a site Kayleigh sent me too, I'm now concerned that I should delete and re-start yet again. Can you post the link again?
Thanks Again. ~ soly[/img]

OK I need real help now - puh-leeze. D/l WinMx 3.54, put in the proper ports have it set to T1 and Primary Connection. The yellow light just blinks and no connection. I believe I have set up my router correctly with a static IP address & ports forwarding which match the settings in WinMX.
So, shouldn't I be getting a connection if everything IS set correctly??? (if yes, then I'm thinking the prob may lie with the DNS Server IP address??, and am at wits end trying to get a bonafide # !) HELP ...
If NOT getting a connection at this point is normal until you d/l & install Pie Patch Auto Updater, then here's the next problem: When I install the patch it pulls up 'Turbo Tax - It's Deductible'! like it's trying to install that! I can't install the patch. I let it run through the ' Turbo Tax' stuff and it puts the icons in the sys tray. I right clicked to manually update. I get an Error mssg "pls make sure there is an internet connection & file not marked read-only - path not found" I don't know where to begin to try and fix this. Has anyone encountered this or have suggestions I can try??
Thanks sooo much :colors:

hey Soly
Sorry, been afk for a couple of days, and sorry for the link, i musta miss typed it?
Any, glad your getitng closer, can you just now give me a quick overview of what you have installed, did u install the MXpie auto updating patch? If so, did you right click on the icon in the system tool tray (bottom right) and click "manually update" ?
If not, you need to do so, this will over write your hosts with the correct settings.

OK, i have a thought, my guess is, you have something preventing the hostsfile being written too, probably your AV. Try switching off your av, and either install the patch over, or just hit the manually update button, the hosts will then update, and you can re-start your AV. I have come across this issue with some AV's
My bet is, this will fix it!
Good luck
