This problem isn't keeping me from connecting to winmx, so it isn't a major issue for me. But, if anyone happens to know a workaround for my problem, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. It bothers me that my system might be hijacked by the file police.
I have a homebuilt system with an AMD Sempron chip under WinXp X64 professional.
Security: Startupmonitor, Avast! & Windows Firewall.
I am using WinMx 3.54 b4 under the old 3.2 patch. This is generally working ok, but I would prefer to use Vladd's new patch autoupdater.
However, the autoupdater will not install.
Before starting to install the autoupdater, I
uninstalled startupmonitor
disabled all Avast Clients
turned Win Firewall Off
uninstalled & removed Winmx
uninstalled the old patch
I reinstalled winmx then attempted to install the autoupdater.
The install appeared to reach the final step then............

StartService: This driver has been blocked from loading
I checked my event log and found this:
\??\C:\Program Files (x86)\PieAutoUpdater\pgfilter.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software
vendor for a compatible version of the driver.
This, of course, isn't the first problem I've had trying to install stuff under X64. So, being somewhat aware of Vladd's excellent reputation, I went to the Vladd Help room thinking this problem might have come up before.
I met a very nice person named Kayleigh, who very insightfully told me how to fix my problem before I told her what it was. I was absolutely amazed!
After some further conversation, someone suggested trying to install the patch under Windows Compatibility Mode on the properties tab or installing under Safe Mode.
I attempted both, but neither worked.
Under Safe Mode I got:

It's no biggie if it doesn't work, but in any case, thank you all for being here.
